Pizza & Politics - July 21st - Matthew Hanney

The grand old Lib Dem tradition of Pizza and Politics is arriving in Havering on July 21st. We can promise you a fascinating evening, as we try to answer the question:

The Conservative - Liberal Democrat coalition: will it work?

During the election we were warning the public of the dangers of voting for the Conservatives, and the Tories were arguing that we should never be let near the levers of power. Now we are in government together. How will it work? Whose policies will actually predominate in getting implemented? Will it be a genuine joint government, or when it comes down to it will the Lib Dems just be an afterthought for a Conservative Prime Minister? Are Lib Dem and Tory approaches in fact fundamentally incompatible?

Matthew Hanney has been at the heart of Nick Clegg's office since Nick was a new MP and the party's Europe spokesperson. Come and hear him tell the story of how in just two weeks the party went from almost everyone rejecting the possibility of working with the Conservatives, to party conference voting all but unanimously to back just that. And most importantly, come to hear how the biggest Liberal Democrat role in government since the 1920s, in partnership with the Conservatives, will actually work.

The evening will take place at 11 Cedric Avenue, Romford, RM1 4JL. It will start at 8pm and finish around 10pm. Pizza, wine and juice will be served with a suggested donation of £10.00 or £5.00 for students and people who are unwaged.

Hope to see you for what promises to be a great evening! Let me know if you are coming or would like more details.
